Fort Henry – A Real Find

This is my 1st travel blog. Yeyyyy.

I want to share as much of my travel experiences as I can because I believe if you go somewhere new and truly take in your surroundings then you are totally taking in the present moment and the “Now” Experience.

Travel should be about experiencing new places and since we got a dog over a year ago, we have been experiencing quite a few news places closer to home that perhaps we would never have done before.

Last week we visited Rutland. Despite the pretty poor weather, there was one of the days among our 4 night stay that we were able to go on a huge walk without getting soaked, although we did still get pretty soaked. After doing some research online we discovered a place called Fort Henry was worth a visit. Also Henry is the name of my 3 year old nephew so also thought quite an appropriate place to ramble to.

After 2 hours of walking. including a good old whistle stop tour around some the famous Rutland Water we were getting very very hungry. We also got lost a couple of times which didn’t help the hunger situation. In hindsight the walk to Fort Henry was alot further than we thought and by the time it came to 2pm we were wanting Fort Henry to appear very soon. After fighting our way through a herd of sheep who thought our dog was their lost little Lamb (she seriously does look like a lamb sometimes) we appeared at what I could only say was an absolute tranquil spot. What made it even more special was there wasn’t another human being in sight, in fact the whole time we stayed there we didn’t see a soul and it was absolute peace.

As we tucked into our sandwiches (I like nothing more than a taking out of our rucksacks some tasty sandwiches and other food delights that we have totally earned after 5 miles of walking) we just watched and absorbed the view and it was so beautiful. These moments are where you realise how lucky you are to view such lovely peaceful scenery and also the beautiful sounds that so often come with it.

My husband is keen photographer so he took the photos. I truly recommend Fort Henry, totally worth every inch of the walking to get there.

Another great “Now” moment.
